Retroperitoneal Cyst

Abstract
The retroperitoneal spase is hat; indefinite area in the lumber and iliac region which lies between the, peritoneum and the posterior wall of the abdominal cavity. The term retroperitoneal cyst or tumor is usually confined by the pathologist to these arising from the structures situated in the retroperitoneal spase, i.e., connective, tissue; and fat, lumbar sympathetic chain and lymphnodess b4--it is often applied by the clinician to them arising from the kidney and adrenal. Retroperitoneal cysts are that of nan-neoplastic nature and originated from retroperitoneal tumor.
Because the retroperitoneal spase; is rather extensive and adjacent organs are easily, displaced, many of ;the cysts grow to a large size before giving any clinical manifestation. Frequently, when the patient is first seen, there is an indefinite abdominal mast the exact nature of which is obscure, and the diagnosis is not made until the time of surgical investigation.
In this record, six cases of large retroperitoneal cysts experienced in the Catholic Medical College Hospital during the last one year from Oct. 1959 to Sept. 1960 are reviewed
They are each one of benign teratomatous cyst of four months and ten days old female infant, ¢¥duplication of alimentary canal of 24:years old house wife which was grown in the retroperitoneal space, para-ovarian cyst that was accidentally found on the laparotomy, huze renal solitary cyst with pre-operative diagnosisis of ovarian cyst and two large cysts of which exact nature and classification can not be made.
